I RECENTLY ASKED A PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR WHOM I RESPECT A GREAT DEAL WHAT HE WOULD SAY ABOUT DELIVERANCE MINISTRY/COUNSELING METHODS TO “PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS” WHO ARE NOT FOLLOWERS OF JESUS…………..HOW WOULD HE ARTICULATE COUNSELING FROM A “DELIVERANCE/FREEDOM IN JESUS” POSITION, IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT’S LEGITIMACY WOULD BE RESPECTED BY UNBELIEVERS WHO ARE PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS
HERE IS WHAT HE SAID BELOW (I RAN THIS BY HIM BELOW BEFORE SENDING TO YOU, TO MAKE SURE THAT I “HEARD” HIM CORRECTLY)
1) this counseling model comes from what is called the “Cognitive
Behavioral Approach”, by Beck
2) it’s premise is to
a) identify the “lies”
b) challenge the “lies”
c) assign “homework” to the individual in response to the “lies”
3) beyond the “Cognitive Behavioral Approach”, we have chosen to
add/include the “spiritual dimension” to the equation
4) as “homework” for the individual, we then further assign “prayer”
(repentance and the renouncing/rebuking of the potential spirit forces”)
in order to address the “spiritual culture” that we believe exists, in
addition to mental/emotional factors that exist
