Generational Sin

GENERATIONAL SIN – The Doctrine

Something done by previous generations in your family line (to the 3rd and 4th generation) that influences us and “our” generation

It is a supernatural inclination or susceptibility to sin in a particular area

It is potentially an evil spirit assigned against us to incite us and invite us to sin

Metaphors described

1) Picture of the watered and fertilized garden –pornography (two different boys are confronted with a playboy or website. One runs, and the other “gets bit” and becomes bound and tormented immediately

2) Picture of a sports program put on probation due to the illegalities of the previous coaches and players

MAJOR ISSUE – Generational sins are a HUGE DEAL, and are often behind our problem areas that won’t go away (invisibly behind, because in our past………..before we were even born – very tricky)

Picture of the iceberg – the power is not what you “see”(the ice), but what you don’t see (the berg)

when generational roots present and tormenting the person it feels to the person like they are being “pulled” or drawn by something (or someone) that they don’t see and can’t seem to stop

picture of a generator providing “weird bad power”underground to a spot above ground far (many years) from the current issues (I will explain next class – I did NOT speak about this nov 16)

BIBLICAL BASIS OF GENERATIONAL SIN (few examples)

Ex 20:5 and Deut 5:9 – “I, the LORD God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation

2 Chron 34:20-21- ” Great is the Lord’s anger that is poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD

Neh 9:2-3 – Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers.

Daniel 9:1-19 – example of someone (Daniel) repenting of

1) His own sins

2) The corporate sins of the  people of Israel

3) The generational sins of the Israelite nation from previous generations
